The head of a small and large athlete is half exhausted at that moment and it has not even begun to play yet! How much attention then does he transfer to the game?
So is the manager, coach or parent — we are constantly distracted by notifications of incoming emails, calls or we “park” our attention on social networks. After half an hour, we peel off and remember in vain where we left off.
Inattention leads to mistakes and slowdowns in the game as much as in life.
We need concentration to perceive the integrity of the moment, the game, teammates and many other factors affecting performance. Attention, I do not concentrate on concentration (“I have to score a goal”, “I have to concentrate”). Concentration is a state of being 100% in the here and now.
So how to concentrate better?
- During the performance focus your gaze on a certain place (e.g. a mark on a tennis racket, a letter on a mantinel or a notch on a hockey stick) and transfer to it all the current feelings of failure. Put all negative thoughts behind you and concentrate on the next turn or action, as if nothing had happened before, and you are starting to play from the beginning.
- Perform breathing exercises at least 2 times a day, 5 minutes each an equally long deep breath (through the nose) followed by an exhalation (through the mouth). When exercising, focus on the flow of air that passes through you.
- Listen to music and focus on tones and melodiesthat you know very well. With maximum concentration, there is a relaxation and setting of the mind to the motivation to perform.
